The services and support that WCRC provides is delivered
almost entirely from the kind hearts of volunteers who give
the gift of their time to support women with cancer.

Come to our Volunteer Orientation
Volunteering
at WCRC is the perfect way to give back to others, while at
the same time providing nourishment for your spirit. Attend
the Volunteer Orientation on the first Wednesday of the month
and find out about who we are, what volunteers and interns
do and some basic information about cancer. Please contact Peggy McGuire at peggy@wcrc.org to reserve a space at the Volunteer Orientation.
Where:
WCRC office, 5741 Telegraph Ave. (at the corner with 58th
St. in N. Oakland). Transportation: AC Transit 1 and 1R buses
stop right in front. There is also plenty of parking if you
are driving. Find out about who we are, what volunteers and
interns do, and basic information about cancer. To sign up

Volunteer Training
We will be holding
a Volunteer Training March 20, 2010, 9 – 4:30 here at the Center.
If you are interested in joining this wonderful community
of support, please contact Peggy, peggy@wcrc.org, 510/601-4040 x 101 for more information about our upcoming training. We
have redesigned our volunteer training program to feature
the exceptional community partners who have stepped forward
to share their knowledge and expertise. All current and prospective
volunteers will participate in this new program to build and
strengthen skills in:
- Emotional self-care
- Communication and listening skills
- The biology of cancer
- Cultural competence
- Critical thinking
- Community resources
- Confidentiality and boundaries
- Universal health and safety precautions
- Program-specific curricula

Volunteer Recognition Event
We were thrilled to celebrate our wonderful volunteers on
May 22, 2008 at our annual Volunteer Recognition Event. We
thanked all volunteers for their wonderful service.
KQED Local Hero Award Recipient Wanna Wright
Wanna is a women's health advocate, poet, playwright and
producer. Her works include "Alive to Testify" and
"No Neva Mind/It's Mind/I Mind." She is a cervical
and breast cancer survivor. She served on the board of directors
for the Women's Cancer Resource Center and the Breast Cancer
