Color-full | The Art of Jane
Norling, Susie Wallenstein, Aiko Kobayashi Gray, Renata
Gray, and Charlotte Tall Mountain
The WCRC Gallery's upcoming show features the vibrant artwork
of five local women artists, in "Color-Full."
The exhibit presents a wide variety of work by Jane Norling,
Renata Gray, Aiko Kobayashi Gray, Susie Wallenstein, and Charlotte
Tall Mountain.
| Jane Norling, graphic
designer, poster artist, muralist and studio painter,
uses abstraction to persuade viewers to do something different
- to pause and allow eyes and mind to wander over open
surface, to take time. Norling pours the love of motion
into her paintings that are rendered in a deep rich palette
of hues. Norling has shown her work at SF MOMA, Galeria
de la Raza, Berkeley Art Center, and the San Francisco
Historical Society. |

Susie Wallenstein creates work in
a medium she calls xerography. Wallenstein wanders through
her own and her neighbor's garden gathering flowers and
plants. Then she composes a still life directly on the
platen of a color copier and makes a single copy of the
image. The resulting product is bright, intentional and
spontaneous. |
| The third member of the show
is textile artist Aiko Kobayashi Gray. Born in
Tokyo, Kobayashi Gray is formally trained in oil painting.
The dynamic tapestries in the exhibit are the result of
study with weavers in Guatemala. Kobayashi Gray creates
her images directly on the loom with no sketches or other
planning. She has shown her work in Japan, Spain, and
locally. |

"Full of Joy"

 |
Renata Gray usual creations are stunning ceramics
adorned with bold patterns. But, the first art project
that Gray worked on after her father passed away last
year was a series of brightly colored and patterned
bamboo poles. Gray now works on both poles and ladders
and adorns them with wire and beads in addition to paint
and burning techniques. Grey has participated in the
Art of Living Black and had her work featured in Essence
Magazine.

The final participant in Color-full is contemporary
shamanistic artist, Charlotte Tall Mountain.
Tall Mountain has shown her work at Gathering Tribes,
Mills College, the Nature Company, and the Pacific Basin
School of Texture and Design.
