"African Harmonies," the artwork of Rae
Louise Hayward
The WCRC Gallery is pleased to present "African Harmonies,"
the artwork of Rae Louise Hayward. Hayward is one of the founders
and sustaining members of The Art Of Living Black, the Bay
Area Black Artists' Annual Exhibition and Open Studios Tour.
Hayward's art celebrates the beauty of African culture: its
people, sculpture, textiles, jewelry and music. Hayward incorporates
a number of African motifs in her art using various mediums
including acrylics, oil pastels and pen and ink. Her paintings
and drawings represent African inspired images in luxurious
and bold sweeps of color.
Hayward has shown widely throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
Additionally, her works are held in both public and private
collections and are available in numerous local galleries
and museum shops.
Besides volunteering her time to assist other artists at
The Art of Living Black, Hayward will be once again donating
a portion of her proceeds to charitable causes. This year
Ms. Hayward will donate to both the Women's Cancer Resource
Center and a relief fund for the September 11th disaster in
New York City, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia.
African Harmonies runs October 2 through 31. The opening
reception with the artist will be held Saturday, October 13th,
11 - 3 PM.
Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 to 5PM and
by appointment. WCRC Gallery is located at 3023 Shattuck Avenue,
Berkeley. 510-548-9286, ext. 307. The gallery is wheelchair
accessible.
