Our Community Partners
In addition to providing a broad array of direct services
to women with cancer, the Womens Cancer Resource
Center partners on an ongoing basis with numerous organizations
and collaborations to ensure that all client needs are
met, promote communication along the continuum of services
available and avoid duplication of services. Some examples
of these collaborations are:
The Center works closely with our neighbor, Charlotte
Maxwell Complementary Clinic, which is located just
one block from and on the same street as the WCRC.
WCRC is a member of the Spanish-Speaking Womens
Cancer Initiative (SSWCI) with seven member organizations
that provide seamless services for Spanish speaking
women in Contra Costa County, primarily on-site at the
Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
Sobrevivir al Cáncer: Una Colaboración
Comunitaria (Cancer Survivorship: A Community Collaborative)
has 12 member organizations and was founded by WCRC
and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to provide culturally
and linguistically appropriate cancer education programs
for Spanish-speaking cancer patients in the San Francisco
Bay Area.
Alameda County Latino Cancer Collaborative has
10 member organizations and was co-founded by WCRC to
improve cancer education, access to health care, and
psychosocial and psychological support, providing a
continuum of care from cancer prevention and early detection
to treatment and support.
The UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center Community Advisory
Board includes UCSF cancer researchers, administrators
and providers as well as community physicians, non-profit
leaders and community advocates with the aim of improving
access to underserved populations. I co-chair the community
needs assessment subcommittee.
We recently participated in a conference convened by
the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center at Summit
Alta Bates for patient navigators from the nine
counties of the San Francisco Bay Area. The consensus
of the participants was to organize as a coalition to
share best practices and advocate for quality and culturally
sensitive navigation programs to serve people with cancer.
The fragmentation of services available for people
with cancer is challenging and wasteful. The Womens
Cancer Resource Center is committed to collaborating
across the spectrum of services.
